This was a very creative world and story structure! The beginning was quite slow for me but the ending was really enjoyable.

I’m not sure what I was expecting going into this book but I can definitely tell you that it was not a story involving monsters and vampires when we found out that Mr. Havemeyer was a vampire I was in complete shock and then to find out about Mr Locke in the end was even crazier. I definitely think this was a good book and I kind of wish we knew what happened to Samuel and if he and January went around the world opening doors and maybe starting a family. Overall I think this book was a really good book and I’m glad that I read it.

This was a good first book after a long reading slump. The plot was overwhelmingly metaphorical in that regard and naturally inspired me to keep reading and opening new doors.
