Thank you to PRHAudio Influencer program for the ALC!

File this one under books I wish I had when I was a teen. This FMC is amazing. She is confident without being arrogant. It tends to turn into a trope in fantasy I’ve seen with the overconfident FMC that has you screaming in your head because of her making obviously dumb decisions. I LOVED that with this we had a nuanced human, someone who looks in the mirror and likes what she sees and has big goals, but also has empathy and patience.

The premise is also so well executed, to have an MMC who is unwillingly turned into a vampire paired with an FMC vampire hunter. I loved all the moments they got thrown together with a splash of fake dating etc and I loved how she taught him how to spar because he’s just a sweet bb angel who never learned to fight in his human life.

Highly recommend the twists and turns of this one. If you are a fan of cemetery boys this is a must read!

Writing and characters are a little too YA for my mood right now.

I found A Cruel Thirst to be a delightful, emotional and adventurous blend of fantasy and romance. A boy who sucks at being a vampire and a girl who’s desperate to be a vampire hunter was a delicious combo. Carolina was fierce, headstrong and independent and Lalo was so endearing, clumsy and serious. I  was charmed by their banter, their family dynamics and the humorous moments. The undercurrent of hope, exploration of grief and coming of age themes made this a captivating YA read. Moreover, I found the plot and character development to be immaculate and engaging, I couldn’t put this down

A fiery vampire slayer and a bookish vampire have to band together-what could possibly go wrong? Well…a lot! From hilariously awkward encounters, to honor duels, this book has heart pounding action paired with delightful humor.

I loved the headstrong FMC and huntress extraordinaire, Carolina. Her snarky quips and internal monologue added so much levity and I loved how she pushed back against the patriarchy. It paired so well with Lala, our kindhearted, slightly awkward, and frankly uncoordinated, vampire. As someone who loved Buffy and sad boi Angel, this star-crossed lovers relationship spoke to my soul!

I also really enjoyed the plot of trying to figure out how to reverse the curse. As Lalo and Carolina dove further in the history and lore, I couldn’t wait to find out more and learn with them! I would have loved even more in this respect- with some of the scenes going further into the reports and entries. I think this would have helped to deepen my understanding of the curse and what occurred, especially at the end with the reveal.

Overall, I had a lovely time reading this. I felt it was fast paced and easy to engage. The characters were enjoyable and played off each other well! My favorite aspects were the humor, banter and lighthearted moments, which brought so much fun to this read. The writing was great and I will absolutely be checking out other works by this author!

Thank you so much, Angela Montoya, Joy Revolution, and NetGalley for an ARC of A Cruel Thirst. It was a joy to read and give my honest review!

This book is a yes from me. The entire premise of a reluctant, scholarly vampire was fantastic. I couldn’t help but love Lalo.
The book felt a little rough around the edges with the exposition and some scene transitions feeling a clunky. But overall, the content was there and the story moved along nicely. We meet a lot of characters but most are minor and play very little role in the story besides moving our characters into place for their next scene. I did Fernanda and Nena, the sister the niece.
The book is YA, so I’m trying not to judge it for that. But as a result, some of the character arc and plot line conclusions felt very simple and juvenile to me. But fun and heartwarming.
