This was just classic Holly Jackson thrilling fun!
Having read 5 of her books now, I can say she probably has a type she falls back on. However she always puts a spin on what she does. Because of this I found it quite easy to figure out who the killer was. but not their motive. This, besides the plot and writing style, made it really fun for me to read. I felt the satisfaction of figuring stuff out myself, while still getting a surprise at the end.

firstly lemme say, i enjoyed this book, as i do with everything holly jackson has ever put out. i loved jet's arc and, jet and billy's relationship dynamic. i have a few complaints though, not necessarily regarding the book but more about holly jackson's writing style, they're all interconnected so i'm not gonna explain it seperately:
holly jackson's writing style has not improved in any way, i've read every single book she has ever put out and i really cannot see how she has improved herself in her art, this might be a hot take but i'm sorry. her ingredients for every book has been the same *spoilers ahead*
.
.
.
bff's parent who is very nice to you but is actually the culprit, fmc running out of time, romance with a traumatic ending
.
.
.
*spoilers done*
she hasn't experimented with new stuff, i mean the closest it got to something new was the reappearance of rachel price. it's like reading the same story but with different kinds of characters. and don't get me wrong, i love how she writes her characters, they are fleshed out and well written, but when i'm reading a mystery book i need the mystery to be... mysterious. if you have the same stuff for every book then it's really just recognising patterns for me, like the story stops intriguing the reader.

i mean i figured out jack was the one who tried to kill her as as she mentioned that he was the nice next door neighbour who was the dad of her childhood bff

holly jackson says in the acknowledgements that she wanted this book to stand out on its own, unrelated to its predecessors, but it doesn't really do that.
so like as much as i enjoyed the book i do think holly jackson needs to experiment a little bit more instead of just re-using the same plot points.
i did bawl my eyes out at the ending tho, holly jackson this is me once again asking you to pay for my therapy

This was much more than a thriller. I was pleasantly surprised how many emotions I felt throughout this read! Great for people looking for a thriller that also makes you cry, laugh, and rage.
