I was actually scared to go read this book, bc I thought that maybe I wouldn't like the book. I mean how many good books can an author write, right? "One day there will be a book I don't like at all and then I cannot say anymore Holly is my favorite author".

I was so dumb for thinking this, what the hell was I thinking? Obviously Holly is still my fave

At first it reminded me of this case (i swear it exists bc I watched some video about it but I can't find anything about it anymore) of a woman who literally solved her own murder.

But I like how this story just took his own turn and man it did take a turn

I for real tought i knew who the killer was... boy was i wrong... not me feeling so smart just to be proved wrong in the last couple of pages

Anyways, I liked it :)

Wow, what a ride. I’m not quite okay. This book is set up in a way that you really can just dive right in and don’t need to know anything beforehand, so all I’ll say is that this book, set right after Halloween, follows Jet Mason, 27, as she attempts to solve her own murder. Along for the ride is her childhood best friend, Billy, her only ally in the town of Woodstock, Vermont.

Highlights of this book include its Vermont setting (not one, but two Noah Kahan "Stick Season" references!), Billy in general (Billy singing at a bar, Billy being a songwriter, when Billy drives Jet's Ford F-150... my love), and all the secrets that just kept piling up. Everyone has something to hide, it just may or may not be related to the murder. I've never quite seen a book like this, but Holly Jackson executes to perfection—it's a rollercoaster up and down all the way.

I think this might be my favourite book from Holly Jackson so far and I’ve read all of her previous ones. It follows a similar blueprint as her previous work. A female lead with a 3 letter name and a male sidekick working together to solve a mystery only to unravel a whole bunch of dark secrets while doing so. If you’ve enjoyed any of the author’s previous books I think you’ll find a lot to enjoy about this one too. Even if the set up is familiar, the characters, the setting and the story all feel new, different and fresh. The book is really fast paced, will keep you guessing wanting to read more to know all the answers to the puzzle. I know when I have less than 150 pages left of a Holly Jackson book I will not be able to put it down. I found the ending to be extremely satisfying tying everything up in a great way. I think that’s the thing I enjoy the most about Jackson’s work. The ending feels earned and you end up with this desire to read the book once again to look for all the details that you missed on the first read. This was a great book!

15% into the story I had an inkling about Jack Finney possibly being a culprit. Turns out, I was right 🙂‍↕️

Another good read from the queen Holly Jackson. Can't wait for more!
