It was…. fine? My first book by this author and it took a while to feel engrossed in the story. Doesn’t help that I didn’t find the FMC very likeable for a lot of the book but once the story really got moving I found it quite enjoyable and easy to read. The ending ruined it for me though…it felt like a cheap trick and left me feeling more irritated than anything else. Personally it felt like a missed opportunity where instead of reader satisfaction, the author has tried too hard to go for shock value and it’s come off as insincere and pretentious. It left me feeling somewhat disrespected as the reader because the payoff was just not worth the time investment for me. While I’m annoyed,  I haven’t reduced my star rating because the writing and premise was quite enjoyable up to that point and others may like that sort of thing.

Messier than usual, a difficult main character and while she's supposed to be 27 and this book is supposed to be for adults, this still reads like YA.

Another great HoJax book, but I did guess the killer quite early. I wanted a little more character development from the mum, Dad and Sophia but recognise it might have bloated the book too much. Still a great story and original premise done very very well

Very meh. I listened to audio for a little bit and did not like the narrator’s voice much. Jet was annoying, I think the only Holly Jackson protagonist I like is Pip. I get making her edgy, and her voice in the book where she’d often start thoughts and sentences without nouns, but i didn’t really care for it.

This book just wasn’t thrilling enough for me? Somehow I didn’t guess the killer. Billy and Jet were fine.  Jet was dumb honestly. Didn’t seem to care that much about her fate or her family. Her family felt underdevelopment considering the they role played in the book. The love story part was a bit unconvincing.

I read the phrase “Jet Sniffed” an unnecessary amount of times. Why was she sniffing so much? Was it her brain damage ?? Was that the implication?

୨ৎ : “i think i’ve spent so long waiting for it all to begin, for life to really start, that i missed out on what it was really all about.”

— ☆ 4/5

i knew how this book would end, it is quite literally the whole plot point. but you guys have no idea how hard i was sobbing. it took me twenty minutes to read forty pages (which for me is crazy), i couldnt see, i couldnt breath and i was sobbing like someone i knew personally died.

this book was so plot driven while also focusing on both the mc and the side characters. i loved learning things when jet did. holly jacksons writing is perfect and i highly recommend this!!

also petition for hj to give her characters a happy ending please i cant do this anymore.
