I really like the plot and the story. The ending was a little disappointing though

I got chills at the end of this book. Highly recommend to those who are fascinated by true crime, especially cases like that of Ted Bundy.

Aiden is a well-liked family man and a staple of the small community. But he has a secret. And he has kept her hidden in his cellar for years.

While tastefully written, the story covers tough topics like kidnapping, murder, rape, and more (so, reader beware). There are multiple POVs in the story, including Emily (owner of a local restaurant), Cecelia (Aiden's daughter), Rachel (the woman being held captive), and the various other victims. I think what made this story so gripping is the changing use of tense between the various POVs. Rachel's chapters, especially, have a necessary detached tone that still manage to put readers in her place to feel everything she is feeling.

I won't say any more to avoid spoilers. But oh boy, this was good!

okay so I was explaining the plot of this book to my husband and he found it so unbelievable and absurd but I didn’t feel that way reading the book 😂

was able to predict a couple things here and there but the last quarter of the book really had me holding my breath!! and the last line made me emotional 🥺

now onto something lighter lol

I give this a solid 3 Stars.
Things I liked:
It gave me the creeps
Was fast paced.
Stressful because of the subject matter.
MFC was likeable.

Things I wasn't crazy about:
Vagueness. There were things that I understand why the author probably didn't want to spell out, but I feel with such a creepy subject it would have been valid to be a little more detailed about certain things. Also, I had to turn off my brain a few times questioning consistencies. I don't think some of the plot was thought through.

While I had a good time with this book and it was a very quick read I didn't enjoy the ending, I felt it was rushed, vague and left me with the feeling of needing a better epilogue. Also the inconsistencies bugged me.
