This book was a constant on reading lists throughout my childhood, but I never seemed drawn to it. I'm glad that I finally read it.
This is clearly a passion project and Satrapi's love for her home is evident on every page. I didn't know all that much about this period in Iranian history, so I appreciated how Satrapi contextualized the changes and shifts. Graphic novels aren't my typically my favorite but the illustrations add an additional level of emotionality to what is already a deeply emotional story. It is both poignant and powerful.

I enjoyed the seriousness tones of this novel along with the genuinely funny satire elements that come into play.

This book is so special. This is my second time reading it and my first time reading it as two separate parts. Part one (childhood) is so insightful and heartbreaking and beautiful. A brilliant account of what it was like to experience a revolution from a child's perspective. A perfect memoir.

War told through the eyes of a child. It is heart wrenching and emotional while still having a child's optimism. I cried.
