I really enjoyed the book. But it is also a hard and a sad book.

A letter, a love story, an education and an ending unlike any I've ever read

Excellent book. Briony's journey from child to adult is beautifully captured It lost me a bit when it jumped forward to the war. Not that the war part wasn't good...it just felt almost like a separate story stuck in the middle and made to work with occasional references to things familiar.

I loved reading the different viewpoints, and how each thought and action triggered new events. I really wanted to throw the book across the room at the end, but after I calmed myself down I realized what a great thing the author had created.

despite being an overall enjoyable book, i found the characters unloveable and thus could not find it in myself to root for them. At times it felt like I knew how I was meant to feel, but just couldn’t get myself to feel the entire depth of emotions the author required from me

Rich with food for thought, but often too slow-paced.

"Yes, she was just a child. But not every child sends a man to prison with a lie."

Or, in which jealous teenager Briony Tallis walks in on her older sister Cecilia having a romantic tryst with gardener boy Robbie Turner. Briony, a writer with an overactive imagination, assumes Robbie sexually assaulted Cecilia and their cousin Lola. Briony reports this to the police, and chaos ensues.
