I had to read this book for school and did not finish it at first because it is just not my favourite genre. Now, preparing for my finals, I listened to the audiobook and have to appreciate the different narrative perspectives and the interesting approach to atonement. However, I could not get myself to really care for any of the characters and the general theme and pace of the book is just not my cup of tea.

this book caused me so much emotional distress and for what. really enjoyed it though, very complex characters that had a lot of heart and nuance.

Superb book. A challenging read exploring the far reaching consequences of a child's overactive imagination coupled with conviction and witnessing a crime. Set before and during WWII, McEwan masterfully explores multiple POVs both female and male. Would recommend highly.

i read this because i remember loving the movie when i was little but not remembering the entire plot, and it did not disappoint! ian mcewan's writing style is very pretty, although i did skim through some parts that felt like superfluous, flowery details. the plot twist made me gasp and i'm glad i didn't remember it. i love a not so happy ending. very much sucks you in. the emerald green dress cecilia wears is iconic!!!
