Absolutely amazing!!

I loved the lyrical writing, the way the story opened and ending with the prologue & epilogue

The characters felt so real and fleshed out, the setting was cozy and but also dark at times. I honestly did not want it to end 😭

This was a fun read! Gave off renaissance vibes. Definitely a unique spin on Mother Gothel and Rapunzel. I really enjoyed the take on her origin story and loved the tie ins with historical figures both fictional and non-fictional. It both warmed my heart and broke it all at the same time. I would recommend reading!

3.5. Would have been 3 stars because it dragged at parts and could’ve been shorter. But I really liked the ending, which added that last half star

This book was captivating! I enjoyed the retelling of Haelwise’s story and learning more about her history as a witch. The religious elements in the story spun a tale which some might find too over the top and this brings me to caution readers who might find religion to be a sensitive topic. Personally, it was depicted in a way that I enjoyed.
The love story is so sweet and devastating at the same time. The authors writing made these scenes so tender and romantic. I loved the relationship and felt Haelwise’s pain. She goes through so many obstacles and grows so much. The scenery is described in such detail, I was swept away into the environment.

I loved the premise and world building but just didn't have an emotional connection to the MC or their relationships. I felt like I was forcing myself to read it at one point, even switching to the audiobook didn't help. I had to DNF or else I would have ended up in a massive reading slump!
