Shapeshifting is my favorite superpower ever so I'm stoked that I'm finally getting to this series. I'd like it more if the kids could only turn into one animal, with all the group dynamics that would allow, but it's okay. I can get used to it.
This one was too introductory, which you kinda need when your series is 50+ books long, but it took a lot of time to get to the actual action and my attention had drifted off by then.

This was a one of the books I read for the book exchange of favorite childhood books I did with a friend. I had never read any of these books and I was really impressed.

The plot is solid, the children all have unique voices and wants and motivations. I had alot of fun with it.

Wow. There is so much you do not catch reading these as a nine year old. The Sharing literally comes off like your friend’s church youth group they keep trying to get you to go to.

I know I'm older than the target audience, but this is just plain bad writing. I thought the concept was great, but then there's dialogue like this:

"It isn't very big, is it?"
"It's about - about three or four times as big as our minivan."

Oof. And it felt more than a little strange to read all the times the protagonist said his cousin was pretty - but "he doesn't think of her like that" - nor is she pretty when her elephant trunk is retracting into her face. Why on earth does her attractiveness matter so much? Especially when she's doing something as cool as morphing?!
