I loved Ellie. She was a fantastic character. But I felt this book dragged for me too much to warrant a higher rating. But I hope Ellie will inspire me to keep trying the elses

Some odd and graphic/descriptive scenes involving wounds/illness and the natural remedies used to treat them. But overall a well-woven story about family relationships and how life's trials change us, for better and worse. My 8 year old listened to the audiobook/read a bit of the hard copy, but I'd say it's better suited for 10+

I did not realize that this book was a middle reader children’s book until after I finished it. I’m a sucker for books set in Maine and this did not disappoint me. It’s a good story with a likable main character.
