The author had me hooked with an all-queer cast, a friends-to-lovers storyline, and a holiday rom-com theme. This was such a cute read! I genuinely loved how each character was on a journey of self-discovery. While I had a stronger love for some characters (looking at you, Liz and Rafi) and not so much for others (Birdie, I'm talking about you), all of them were complex individuals with deep emotional layers, largely influenced by their larger-than-life mother. The author did a fantastic job of setting up the characters to explore who they truly are and uncover the underlying issues that might explain their behaviors. Overall, the story and plot were solid, and I really felt something while reading it! Plus, I'm a sucker for a good holiday queer romance!

Just the right kind of Christmas spirit  I’m looking for in a holiday romance. I loved that the characters were layered and interesting, and the story wasn’t always light. There was a perfect blend of realistic tough stuff and quirky delights. If that doesn’t get you, read it just for the fake TV series based off of the book series Sweet Valley High. 😛 Don’t skip the author’s note at the end (her fake series was in fact inspired by the CW’s Riverdale).

My partner and I both found ourselves continually shaking our heads with second hand embarrassment at many of the choices Birdie and Rafi made in this story.  I also cringed at quite a few of the dialogue choices throughout the book. A couple stand outs were “last night we attacked each other like carnivores at a meat buffet” and “she’s going to make you very, very sticky”. However, I chuckled about as often as I cringed and I really enjoyed the character development. I also felt both Rafi and Liz’s sex scenes were tender and realistic.

Started out really strong, but three romantic plots was just a bit too much.
