Keep in mind this was written in 2017, the sexual trauma the FMC has within the first few chapters is not great, to say the least. There are no details, other than the king being terrible, but the trauma she carries is highly triggering.
I will say that the world, the magic, and the retelling of Beauty and the Beast is compelling. I wish the beginning of the story didn't start the way it did, hence the star off the rating. It was a quick read, and love story was nice, if not filled with misconceptions/misreadings of a situation on both their parts.

I have a mild obsession with beauty and the beast. I was extremely excited to see this book(which I found by entering a giveaway and I am so glad I found this author). I love the different take on this - including the enchantress into the story. The curse was same but different which was also cool. I just loved it.

The writing is good, the plot is great. I laughed and yelled at an imaginary character (ha). I read this in a day and plan on adding it to my shelves at home(read it on kindle unlimited)

Definitely recommend giving this book a read!

This was a fun and interesting retelling of Beauty and the Beast. There were obvious parallels that were time period specific but parallels just the same. The names were different but the story was still just as enchanting.

This book was fun to read and I read it in a matter of hours!
Looking forward to Awaken the next in the series!

This was a good retelling. This story went by so fast I read it in one sitting. I loved how Zuleika ||not only admitted to her wrongs but also did everything she could to right then even willing to give her own life to do it||. The fact that she ||blamed herself even though she was just a child when it happened|| is crazy. The only negative I will say about this book is the romance is lacking, it is very much a love at first sight kind of romance, tho they do fall for personality more than looks. I can't mark this book down too much for it though as I feel they achieved a great deal in a small number of pages. I would recommend this book.

A sweet, simple retelling with a wee bit of spice. I think this version would make an excellent opera.

Not bad

It wasn't a bad retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I didn't exactly hate it, but I didn't really care for it either. Everything happened so quickly and then ended abruptly. There was no closure to some of the storyline, and it was like "oh hey we are in love and I randomly broke this curse and everything is good good now. The end!" That just didn't work for me. This storyline had so much potential and I feel it fell flat.

Clever and delightful!

I've always loved creative retellings of classic fairytales. Demelza Carlton took the framework of Beauty and the Beast and built something even better.

4.5/5 stars! I devoured this book and really enjoyed the retelling of beauty and the beast! I’ve always loved that movie and it was nice to see their story from both POVs!
