This was a super cozy read. I loved the blend of folk-ish vibes and magic. The only bit that didn't sell me was Adaira. I wanted to like her character how I did all of the others, but her character stalled in development and never picked up again until the absolute end. Her and Jack's romance was okay, but again I wasn't super feeling Adaira. Comparing that relationship to Sidra and Torin's and even the slivers of Mirin and her mystery relationship, I just didn't feel the connection like I did for the other two pairs' arcs. Throughout the whole book Adaira feels emotionally absent and that did very little for me when it barely thawed for the rest of the book. I hope she gets explored/developed a bit more in the next one. Regardless I'm sure I'll enjoy it if it's anything like this one!

This book was a slow start for me, even on audio book. I feel like it was trying to do a lot at once, and it felt a little disjointed

Things started to come together toward the middle, so I'm planning to continue with the duology. Just not my favorite.

After reading Rebecca Ross’s young adult novel ‘Divine Rivals’ I was curious to read one of her adult fantasy novels.

I thought this was exceptional, all the beautiful and rich prose that I was familiar with but with a larger fantasy setting. One of those really special books that is so atmospheric it make you feel like you’re in that world. I love love loved this.

This book explored northern European folklore in a fresh, new, and enthralling way. The characters were realistic, none being completely flawless, but were also not the scum of the earth. While the twists were mildly predictable, they were still hidden enough that I didn’t guess the details of them. It felt as though it could have been set in our world, with an added element of magic.
