A friend of mine lent me this book and thought I'd like it. Unfortunately, I didn't. There were some wonderful parts, and I wanted to like it, but overall I found its lexicon too complicated for children and its story too simple for adults. I also couldn't make sense of the magic. Most good tales with magic—especially the fantastical ones—have a rhythm and order to them. The magic in this tale felt like "I Dream of Jeanie" magic. It was as undeveloped and convenient as the fairy's character. In the end, amazing, wondrous events occurred, but I was left cold. Then the story abruptly ended. And so has my review.
