i don't know what i can even write about this. it's a mind fuck through and through. lots of unnecessary detail which i've heard is the murakami special.

This is the second book in the trilogy and I have to say I am mostly disappointed. The premise of this story was so promising. While you learn a bit more about the driving mystery, it takes so long to get anywhere that you start to become bored reading it.

Some parts are very interesting and you get sucked in only for that plot line to be split over 8 chapters interspersed with another characters story. It breaks the flow and cuts the intrigue.

Finally as you start getting to the end of the book it picks up pace a bit but you don’t actually learn anything. Yet again you are left with an unresolved story. The book doesn’t have an ending so much as it just ends. I suspect Book 3 does not bring much resolution, and from reviews I’ve read it seems to be an even worse slog to get through.

The first two books could have easily been edited down by half. I’ve given it 3 stars because the writing is mostly good (minus the poorly written women), but honestly it doesn’t deserve more than 2.5.

It is unlikely that I will read Book 3.
