The future remains uncertain and so it should, for it is the canvas upon which we paint our desires. Thus always the human condition faces a beautifully empty canvas.

Honestly unsure if I'll be continuing the series because Leto's development was definitely the least compelling part of Children of Dune for me, but I really enjoyed following Ghani & Alia nonetheless. Justice for Alia, though, man...and I don't even want to think about trying to explain the unhinged plot of CoD to someone unfamiliar with it.

A lot of interesting discussion here around the ecological transformation of Dune and its impact on Fremen culture, which has definitely been neglected by the 2021/4 film adaptations thus far.

I also feel like Herbert's misogyny and homophobia is becoming increasingly unbearable as the series goes on...

A beautiful continuation of the Dune Saga. This book dives even deeper into the religious politics of the Dune universe than the two previous, and makes you excited to read God Emperor of Dune.

This book still has in my mind one of the craziest plot twists of all time (if you know you know). It’s sad to see the degradation of a lot of the characters, but such an interesting book. I wanted more time with Leto out in the desert, though.

“The joy of living, its beauty is all bound up in the fact that life can surprise you.”

“I charge you to save people. They’re more important than things.”

“To suspect your own mortality is to know the beginning of terror; to learn irrefutably that you are mortal is to know the end of terror.”

“Is your religion real when it cost you nothing and carries no risk? Is your religion real when you fatten upon it? Is your religion real when you commit atrocities in its name?”

“People, not commercial organizations or chains of command, are what make great civilizations work. Every civilization depends upon the quality of the individuals it produces.”

“That humans can endure only in a fraternity of social justice.”

The third installment in the Dune series, and once again we start off with a sizeable time skip from the last events of Dune Messiah. The focus has shifted from Paul and his psychic abilities to his two children and their psychic abilities compared to their aunts capabilities. Once again this book involves another struggle for the Atredies to try and keep the throne from other families hands.

This series is starting to feel as though its dragging its heels now, I'm not sure we needed a third installment at all? It seems the character writing becomes sloppier the more books we progress through. If I'm being honest, I don't like either of the twins characters and this is not something that will change over the course of the rest of the series I'm sure. There was nothing really that captivated me about Children of Dune and I'll only be continuing the series because there's nothing worse than leaving a series half read.
