This was a fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice set near Brooklyn. I enjoyed how Ibi Zoboi followed P & P's story structure but modernized it. Though I do admit that Zuri got on my nerves a lot and made me wonder what Darius saw in her. Overall, 3.5 stars

I really enjoyed this! It was cool because I've read pride and prejudice and I could see how the author adapted the story beats for modern-day Brooklyn. I also really liked the sister relationships. It kind of reminded me of Jenny Han's to all the boys before because of the balance of romance and other themes. I liked how the book had important topics like class, race, and gentrification while still remaining a fun book to read.

In a timely update of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, National Book Award finalist Ibi Zoboi skillfully balances cultural identity, class, and gentrification against the heady magic of first love in her vibrant reimagining of this beloved classic.
A smart, funny, gorgeous retelling of Pride and Prejudice, starring all characters of color.
Don't miss the audiobook, read by Elizabeth Acevedo, the beloved author and narrator of The Poet X.

This book was so good! What a unique and fresh modernization of Pride & Prejudice. I especially loved that, unlike most retellings of the story, this book included a strong commentary on class differences. Of course the context is different than the original, but it really took that aspect of Austen's work to heart. The audio book narrator was excellent!
*3.5
Not awful. Not great. The writing took some time to get used to and the building up of the relationship between characters sometimes felt too fast. But it’s an easy read. I wish there was some deeper dives into topics like class, gentrification, etc. At times it felt a little too surface level but still a fun read.

Ibi Zoboi has SUCH a way with words. She makes me feel as if I were the characters themselves. Her descriptions are like poetry and the poems in this story that Zuri writes are just phenominal. I never wanted to finish reading this book.
I will also continue to read absolutely anything Zoboi writes. She has become an insta-buy author for me :)
