Okay, this is pure bubble gum fluff, but you have to hand it to the hometown hero Lorna Landvik. She's a hoot in person.

Well-written. Follows five friends for three decades, starting in the 1968. Set in the Twin Cities.

For book club tomorrow night. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the chick lit fluff I thought it would be based on the title. There was a bit more meat to it than that. Though somewhat predictable, I did enjoy the relationships this group of neighborhood woman developed as they shared their lives over 30 years.

**Edited Makes me laugh that after the discussion, I liked it less!!

If you don’t like reality and family drama, this book is not for you. This is a book that spans 30 years involving a group of friends in a book club. There is absolutely everything in this book as you see them grow, their children grow and age catching up. It’s heartbreaking at times, maddening at times, but the laughter at times is the best. Every subject seems to be touched upon in this book and I shed a few tears. Definitely one for the desert island books list.

I only give 5 stars to books I would recommend to everyone I see. While I would recommend this book to anyone who has a tight-knit cul-de-sac (me), a long-term book club (me) or just longtime friends (me) you still turn to for the good, the bad & more -- I know not everyone would love this long story of friends & books & lives through decades of life.

I read this on the recomendation of my dental hygenist. When I finished it I passed it on to my mom who LOVED it. I think that might be the target audience here - Women a generation or two older than me.

It's not that the book is bad - it's just kind of predictable. I found that was true with the other Lorna Landvik book I read as well. I was able to see things coming from a mile away. *sigh* Yet the writing was good enough that I never put the book down so I guess that's something.

Did I mention my mom loved it?

An excellent book! It's probably one of my favorite "women's book club" novels I've read in a long time. The characters are realistic and despite their flaws, I LIKED them. These women were ordinary and yet they were different as well. I enjoyed how the book covered several years and many different issues. The members took turns telling the story and I liked how that broke the novel up. This is probably a book I'll need to read again.

My bookclub book for October. I read it several years ago and loved it so I'm looking forward to reading it again!

9/30 update: I normally don't enjoy rereading books, but this is one exception! I loved it every bit as much as I did the first time I read it, in fact, I think it is one I'm going to have to buy and pull off the shelf every few years to reread. A beautiful story of sisterhood spanning 30 years and many ups and downs. Everyone should read this book!
