A genre-defying discourse on the American enterprise. Not quite novel, not quite memoir; I definitely needed to do some googling for historical context in moments.

It took me a while to get into this book, but then I found it so interesting and compelling.

Discombobulated or ADHD?
Lots of different stories.
Hard to tell the difference between the fact and fiction but still engaging and enlightening.

This book made me so tired. It has moments of brilliance dispersed with so much self-indulgence I wanted to cry. Akhtar writes like Philip Roth if Roth were Muslim and that is both interesting and infuriating (I have a strong love/hate thing with Roth).

It's one of the most thoughtful books I've read. It's definitely in my top 10 books this year.
At first, I thought this was fiction, but soon I learned that this is his memoir. The book is honest and vulnerable. He voiced his thoughts, even some that people are usually afraid to put out there. His work is bold, but he saw the layer underneath it all. He delivered all the stories with a clear purpose. To shed some light on an aspect of America, through his relationship with family, friends, and money. He absorbed what people put into the world and analyze it to truly understand. His hard work and observation inspired me to think more, to see more, and to understand more.

A really enjoyable storyline of a life that starts in "wisconsin", but is so completely different than my own story.
