This book at first felt like a fever dream. I didn’t understand any of it, but after a few poems, the writing became clearer. Some of the poems are very pressing and the frequent discussions of feminism and sexism are great, but some of them lack the same ability to captivate and enthral. Overall, not a terrible collection, but not my favourite.

Above Me

This is something that I definitely need to come back to. It is no doubt written beautifully but so much went over my head.

LOVE! I read for my poetry class and is so far my favorite :). Super quick read and super interesting! I’d say for mature readers although some of it is pretty funny with a dark undertone.

An irreverent and often abstract collection. I most enjoyed the two longer/prose poems: "The Father and Mother of American Tit-Pics" and "Rape Joke".

3.5 stars. The first half of this collection overwhelmed me as Lockwood’s writing and imagery were disturbingly beautiful but once I read Rape Poem, I felt that the collection had hit its crescendo and then mumbled on. I think the collection may have worked better for me if Rape Poem came last. I loved Lockwood’s voice and I really enjoyed most of these poems but the last few left me feeling underwhelmed when I closed the book.
