I hadn't realized that the tv show was based on a book series. I could see being angry at how different the tv show is from the books but since I went the other way I enjoyed it. The story kept my interest. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the storyline and writing. I will keep my eye out for her other books.

It has been a while since I read the previous book in the series, yet it was easy to become immersed once again in Gerritsen's gripping if somewhat dark and gruesome writing style.
Some reviewers have indicated an issue with Gerritsen's depiction of the big cats in the book; however, to me her portrayal is realistic and believable. It also highlights the problem of keeping wild animals in captivity for human entertainment as well as the fact that people who encroach on natural habitats should not be surprised when they get eaten.
The case itself is interesting, especially the parts set in Africa. The first person narration in these chapters add intensity to the events, and helps the reader to become engaged both with the setting and the characters. There is a bittersweet moment at the end when the identity of the killer is revealed (it is actually easy to guess this), and it becomes clear that.
Overall, an excellent addition to the series and I'm glad that I've gotten back to it.

I am never disappointed in these books! Always love reading them and loved the setting of this one. I feel like I always learn something from Rizzoli and Isles books as well!
Also proud of myself for finally predicting who the killer was (although I didnât guess the whole twist) as this is the first time in 11 books đ€Łđ€Ł

Really nice book you really want to know the end.
But a little predictable, they woudn't put in a story line that has nothing to do with the fist murder.

Das Buch gliedert sich in zwei ErzÀhlstrÀnge, die sich immer wieder abwechseln.
In Boston ermittelt Jane Rizzoli in einem bizarren Mord an einem JĂ€ger und TierprĂ€parators. Er wurde wie seine Beute aufgehangen und ausgeweidet. Bald word ein Skelett gefunden und Maura Isles sieht eine Verbindung zwischen den FĂ€llen und versucht die Ermittlerteams davon zu ĂŒberzeugen.
Der zweite ErzĂ€hlstrang spielt in Botswana, fĂŒnf Jahre frĂŒher und wird in der Ich-Perspektive erzĂ€hlt. Ein mehr oder weniger idyllische Safari-Reise entwickelt sich zum Horrortrip, bei dem es scheinbar kein entkommen gibt.
Ich mag die BĂŒcher um Rizzoli und Isles und auch hier konnte mich die Geschichte begeistern. Lange tappt man in Boston im dunkeln und Maura hat es wirklich schwer die Ermittler, und auch Jane davon zu ĂŒberzeugen das ein Serienkiller sein unwesen treibt. Bei diesem ErzĂ€hlstrang geht es vor allem um die Ermittlung, der wirkliche Spannungsbogen wurde fĂŒr mich im zweiten ErzĂ€hlstrang aufgebaut. Gekonnt entwickelt sich die vermeintliche Idylle zum absoluten Horror und gespannt wartete ich als Leser darauf, was als nĂ€chstes Geschehen wird.
Erst zum Schluss wird klar wie die ErzĂ€hlstrĂ€nge wirklich zueinander gehören und warten dann noch mit einer Ăberraschung auf.
Die privaten Geschehnisse um die Hauptprotagonisten Rizzoli und Isles nehmen in diesem Buch nur eine untergeordnete Rolle ein und umranden die Geschichte. Persönlich gefĂ€llt mir die Entwicklung der Maura Isles in diesem Buch nicht so, und fĂ€nde es Schade, wenn sich ihre Rolle so weiter entwickeln wĂŒrde.
