We met Trisha in the Sweetwater Springs series, as she decided to move to Somerset Lake. Somerset Lake sounds like an amazing small town. On Friday nights in the summer, the whole town gathers for Sunset Over Somerset with music and dancing under the stars. And the church service on Sunday is outdoors, too. The community is welcoming and have a bunch of quirky traditions. And there's a romance novel book club at the local independent bookstore. This lake is the perfect setting for a new series.

Trisha moved to Somerset Lake with her son Petey to leave behind her ex-husband's reputation as an embezzler. Jake headed home to Somerset Lake for a month to convince his grandmother Vi to sell the cottages she can no longer manage on her own. But Vi has already hired Trisha to manage them. They are both genuine, good people, torn over what is the right thing to do for those they love.

This book has all the sweet romance, gorgeous lake setting, and beautiful evenings I could want. Plus Jake's Labrador Bailey is a charmer. Here's to a new series featuring, "strong, independent, smart, beautiful, book-loving women."

Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you @readforeverpub for a copy of this small town romance. This was a slow burn, sweet romance between Trisha and Jake. Trisha is starting a new life with her son and Jake returns to Sweetwater to check on his grandma. The town is so charming and so are the people in it.

I love all the side characters and have already read Lucy & Mile's story so it was fun to see them here. Both Trisha and Jake and hesitant to start something and I liked how mature they were at approaching their relationship.

I love the first book in a companion series! Meeting all the new characters and guessing who will be the future MCs is my favorite part. Somerset Lake is a nice setting, like Sweetwater Springs, and I can’t wait to explore more of the town and people in upcoming book. Jake and Trisha had a cute relationship too.

The Summer Cottage
is the first book in a new series by Annie Rains. A sweet start to a small town romance series that will make you wish Somerset Lake was the place you called Home.

Trisha and her son Petey moved to Somerset Lake to start fresh and escape the judgement and the weight of her ex-husbands crimes. Jake has returned to Somerset Lake to convince his grandmother, Vi, to retire and sell the family cottages. They start with conflicting end games for the lakeside cottages. When he finds himself working with Trish to restore the cottages he slowly starts to remember why he loved his hometown. But will Trisha's past keep her from fully being able to trust and give away her heart again.

"Every time I look at you, my heart skips a beat."

This is a really sweet small town romance. Charming characters and a tight-knit community that I would love to be a part of. The town's book club was wonderful, and I hope all the ladies of the group end up getting their own books in the series. The romances between Jake and Trisha is a slow burn, low angst, low steam journey(I'm talking no more than kisses are exchanged) . Yet I didn't miss the intimacy scenes because the story is filled lots of experiences for them to connect on a more emotional level and build trust between them.

"With me is exactly where you always belong. No matter what."

Annie Rains writes one of my favorite small town series, Sweetwater Springs, and I have a feeling that Somerset Lake is going to be right alongside that one. She is my go to for a cozy romance and The Summer Cottage did not disappoint.

What a lovely summer read! I was immediately taken in by the glorious descriptions of Somerset Lake and the caring community who reside there. Having been a single mother myself, I am always appreciative of a a strong female protagonist trying to make a better home for their child. The characters are all extremely likeable, making this book highly relaxing and enjoyable. The introduction of Trisha into the community, including a supportive women’s book club. surely sets the stage for further books in the Somerset Lake series. I am definitely looking forward to reading more.

I really enjoyed this character in another series so I was thrilled she got her own storyline! This was a sweet romance featuring adorable, likable characters. I was rooting for them throughout. I enjoyed the romance, it moves at a nice pace as to be believable without being rushed. The other characters were a hoot and I’m thrilled that this is the start of a new series! I can’t wait to continue on and read more about them. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This was a sweet, romantic, finding yourself again type of book.

I enjoyed the story behind Trisha and Petey. I liked Trisha's strength and resilience in starting over.

Somerset Lake sounds like an idyllic place to live. And Jake is such a swoon-worthy good guy! His interaction with Petey and his dog Bailey made my heart happy.

If you are looking for a sweet, hopeful, wash beach read pick this one up. This reminded me a lot of The Path to Sunshine Cove by RaeAnne Thayne.

The only downside for me personally was that I like a little more steam in my romances. On my steam scale, this is a

Annie does not disappoint. I am so excited for this cast of characters in Somerset Lake and loved getting another experience with Trisha and Petey. Trisha is new to Somerset Lake and is ready to work on her fresh start after a nasty divorce and a hard time in Sweetwater Springs after her husband wronged so many people. She is a little closed off and not ready to like her boss's grandson, Jake. But when Petey gets involved and new friends make her feel so welcome, it was so much easier for her to take a chance on a true fresh start at both life and love. Fans of Sweetwater Springs and also of small town romances with lots of heart, you need this book.

The Summer Cottage is the first in a new series by Annie Rains. It contains a character from her first series Sweetwater Springs. I do recommend reading that series first, but you definitely don't have to. In The Summer Cottage , Trisha Langly (who we met in the last Sweetwater Springs book) moves her son from Sweetwater Springs to Somerset Lake. Trisha is hoping that the two hours distance from her home town will give her the opportunity to start over and hide from her past. Yet, Trisha discovers that the grandson of her new employer, Jake Fletcher, is going to push his way into her history and then her heart.

This was a cute second chance at love story for both Trisha and Jake. These books are saccharine sweet which I actually do enjoy. They are fast reads and offer an easy distraction (something I have been in need of more than ever the last few years). I didn't enjoy this book or the first book in the Sweetwater Springs series as much as the other books in the series; the reason being that these love stories are also community driven, so I enjoy how the characters in each book relate to each other and storylines are expanded upon. I already read the second book in the Somerset Lake series and did find that I really enjoyed it more. With all that said though, this is an enjoyable book and I do recommend Annie Rains books to lovers of romance.
