The characters and plot were pretty well developed and interesting, but something about the writing style was a bit off putting. There were a couple of scenes in particular that I think could definitely have been executed better, and as a result, I wasn't totally absorbed in this book as I was reading it. However, I will still probably read the sequel, as I did truly like the characters and would like to continue following their journey.

Ace of Shades at first wasn't too exciting, but I became more engrossed into the book. It didn't interest me enough to continue the series, but I did think that it was entertaining. I liked the characters and how they interacted with each other and the world. I thought the worldbuilding was done well, as well as the political system though the political history felt a little confusing. The shadow game, Enne, and Lords was the plotline i was most interested in, while I feel am bothers were more interested in the romance. I liked the character development that we saw within Enne specifically during her time in the city. I wouldn't recommend the book to others, but if someone says it sounds interesting it wouldn't hurt to read it

I really enjoyed this! This was different than most books I read these days, but it was exactly what I wanted! The character were interesting, and it was exciting to see how they each changed throughout the story, especially Enna. Each page held a new twist and surprise. I’m dying to get my hands on the next couple books.

I am currently torn on my rating. I would say my current rating it a 3.75. I think the hype may have had to do with this. I was so excited going in and the beginning wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. That being said I really liked the book and the characters we met. There is a slow burn romance that drove me totally nuts. There were unanswered questions that drove me totally nuts. I will be picking up the next book though. For the most part I think the book was written well and had inserting concepts. There were some typos and they instantly caught my eye so I am surprised they got through the editing phases and into the print. This was my first Amanda Foody book and I liked it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, the concept is pretty cool and I liked the characters. However, it just felt as if something was missing - but I'm not sure what. The story started off a bit slow and it took a while for me to get drawn into the story.

Whilst I totally expected that Enne's mother was dead it still felt anti-climatic that after all that time looking she was just dead. I feel like that plot point should have been revealed way earlier to leave more time for the whole shadow game to play out.

It was also super annoying that after all the tension between Enne and Levi literally nothing happened between them. While I expect that this will be resolved in later books it was pretty annoying since it was one of the only plot points I was interested in.

I hope that Lola and Enne become proper friends, I feel like that could be an awesome badass duo.

Lucky I read this book on my library app, if the later books become available on it too I'll definitely continue the series; but I have no interest in using my own coin to do so.

ending off my year with a bang- this book is a definite 4.5/5 stars!
First off, I wouldn't read this book and think of it as another Six of Crows book...because that wouldn't do either book justice. For one, the worldbuilding in this book definitely could have used some work, and honestly the main character frustrated me a lot at times because it seemed as though she didn't have any common sense. However, I did fall in love with New Reynes, Levi, Jac, and Lola as the book continued. This was a really good debut and I look forward to the second book as well!
