After loving The Family Game, I was excited to read more from Steadman. And this one was only okay.
The opening was great - Erin digging a grave for her husband. But it also meant we kind of knew Mark was gonna do something bad. It was very clear he was somehow involved or lying to Erin.
My god, her watching him the woods and thinking "My poor husband! He is so brave and I need to help him" when he was SO CLEARLY not in danger was maddening. How dumb can you be?
That said, I don't understand the implication that Mark never loved her/was using her. For what? In case they ever came across millions of dollars lost in a plane crash? Like, what was his game?
I did enjoy the ethical dilemma aspect of the book and learned that I'm maybe not a great person because I was just like "you obviously keep it? No one needs to know?" lol
Mark creating a trail to the other couple and getting them killed was a surprise, but again...MARK.
I really thought we were going to find out Eddie was Erin's dad and she was lying about him. But then she kept thinking he was hot so...never mind.
All in all it was a fine time but never really shocked or excited me the way The Family Game did. That one wasn't shocking but at least it was a lot of fun. This one was just okay.

This book was terrible. The main character was insufferable. The relationship was unbelievable.
Could not get into this book whatsoever, it seemed choppy and the story line was all over the place.
Really entertaining . While not the best ending plot wise, the early set up and the writing did it for me.
