As usual, this is also somewhat of a mixed bag. On one hand, by the end, we finally get a lot of progression of the macro plot and a bunch of lore that explains some of what’s going on with Griffith and the eclipse. On another, Casca still gets the shit end of the stick, purely being a foil for Griffith and Guts, and is put in either danger or emotional circumstances to elicit a reaction from either character, including sexual assault. And a good a third of the volume is a really, really long fight that wasn’t very interesting, as it’s just Guts doing the same old: getting real beat up and being stubborn while bleeding and broken, and then winning anyway.
Decent cliffhanger though.

Continues the Golden Age arc.
Another strong section of Berserk, though for me Wyald is one of the weaker villains of the series - reliant only on shock value to stand out. Although in his 'final form' the monster design in the artwork shines as strongly as ever. The Kushan assassins are also kind of underwhelming here.
After the escape however, this is a great section of character exploration for Griffith, as we see how he rejects the possibility of a peaceful live with Guts and Casca as he cannot stand to be the weakest of the three. I personally feel that this is the section that really betrays the internal weakness and ugliness behind Griffith's facade of control and enlightment.
As the eclipse starts, the artwork of the Void and the Apostles is just... horrifically, awfully, beautiful. I truly think this and the next section of Berserk include some of the best horror artwork I've ever seen in any genre, let alone in manga. Just wow.
