What the... is wrong with him?! Why did he start crying?!?! He totally sucks and after putting Miss Narwin through all that trouble just because he didn't like her! He ruined her whole life!!!

Interesting plot. Despite being almost 30 years old I think it's still applicable as a great commentary on modern parenting, the disconnect between people always yelling for less taxes and yet expecting all the things taxes are used to pay for, (I don't want to pay taxes but expect you to somehow still fill the pot holes in the road, educate my child with the best education a 1st world country can give, keep the libraries open and all the other things taxes pay for) and communication skills and how the lack there of can cause issues. However, the execution is lacking. The way people talk is not believable and I don't think it's just because of a change in slang over the years. Overall, great idea, poorly executed.

I understand why this book is important, and theoretically I would recommend it, but it was a really frustrating book to read because it made me so upset.

definitely gave you something to think about, but didn't really like the way it was written, and the ending was a disappointing suprise.

The format was interesting and engaging. However, I found the plot troubling. As someone looking forward to educating high schoolers one day, this was so sad to read. I think more than patriotism, a focus needs to be placed on honesty and accountability for our own actions. Philip is not a good example of this.

Hated this book and don't understand why it's a Newbery Honor Book- there is nothing to like about the main character.

Ugh. I had so much hope for this book...something to get my students motivated to question the happenings around them. Then I read the book. I was pretty disappointed. The theme may work for my students....a lie rolling into a disaster, but I did not like the story.

A student tells a lie and then rumors fly and a teacher loses her reputation. No solution. No real end.

I did like the style of the book...and I would love to read something like that with my students, but the story is too egregious to teach, so I will be shelving the book.

This was a great book for a couple of reasons. I enjoyed the format of using memos, letters, phone conversations to tell the story. It also did a great job of showing how easy it us to spread misinformation, making this 30 year old story very timely because of the way fake news spreads on social media. I’d recommend this book to any reader over ten.
