The way the MC justified being a pedophile after the child rape scene, and the amount of time the author spent trying to make it seem okay because it was a cultural difference was horrific, I couldn’t continue

HARD PASS and super mad at myself for not considering that there may be graphic child rape scenes from this author. Will not be seeking more from her period.

A strange one. Shows the author's ability to craft character and write in a very convincing manner that makes you believe the world and people presented to you.

It tells you how far and broken science remains at the hands of those who only intend to abuse. They abuse the nature of everyone around to seem intellectual. The time that people like Norton existed as captured by Hanya also remains as true outside the fictional world as well. I only wish those like Victor and our surrounding some peace and calm from everyone. The book itself remains interesting and veey hard to process as you travel through the eyes of an abuser. But I commend Hanya for the vulnerability showcased in her writing and structuring of this book.

This was a disturbing book in many ways but also beautifully written. I did not like being in the mind of the MC but also thought it was a riveting method to see things from the perspective of the colonizer, the privileged, etc. However, the book did go on a tangent that I did not feel was necessary to get this perspective and that did affect my rating.

As all of Yanagihara's work, this is beautifully written composition about a terrible, stomach-turning series of events. This book was truly upsetting, and I will be digesting it for a long, long time.
