Threads over some of the same areas covered by Debt, but it's still good reading Graeber.
My library hold ran out and honestly the book was just so, so much. I could never find my groove with this title.
incredibly fascinating book that attempts to recontextualize human history and gives compelling arguments for how human evolution has been explored and thus defined through a biased lens. My criticism is that given the relatively minimal proclamations of the book, the sheer size of it felt excessive and in the same vein several sections seemed repetitive. On the other hand the claims are very bold and likely controversial so maybe the repeated examples and extensive discussion for each point are necessary to bring home the argument.

An interesting and informative read that definitely changed my perspective on many aspects of history and society. A lot of this was speculation on what many early societies may have been like (as are most discussions on early human civilization). Still, I'm inclined to embrace this book's more positive argument for egalitarian self-governance. My one critique of the book itself is that I think certain arguments could have benefited from more supporting evidence, but I understand that some details may get lost in the editing process for such an ambitious project.
My listening experience was two-sided. This book is a real chunker, so the audiobook definitely helped me get through it. I wish I had listened to it in tandem with the physical book, since on audio I had no way to access any footnotes or citations. I also found that - like with every other audiobook I've listened to - my mind tended to wander and I'd miss information unless I was constantly rewinding.
The book was dense and threw a lot of information at me, so I'd want to reread it at some point. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for some anti-capitalist anthropology.

Shocked that this book is so popular. It’s interesting but incredibly dense and detailed, hard to stay engaged yet interesting throughout.
