I almost gave up on this book 20 pages in but stuck with it. Despite being almost as tedious as a real Victorian novel, it was also strangely engaging.

Few books need to be over 800 pages long and this was not one of them.
Cleverly constructed, well written, interesting setting, intriguing mystery but it just did it not grab my attention.

It took me about 200 pages to really get into this book, and I only pushed through because I'm reading it for my book club. I hate not finishing books for book club. I'm so glad I did, though -- what a fun adventure story, with a good dash of mystery and history.

Nope, I can't... I have given this novel around four tries in the last three years. I just can't... Life's too short to read books which you don't find interesting.
