God that thing was awful sometimes. I skipped through the last 10% because I just couldn’t stand these two together lmao. this book is basically 50% smut so it was entertaining but other then that hm idk. I already didn’t have high hopes but I heard the duet in this series is supposed to be very good so I had to read the first one.

This book was the epitome of the “you were good, I wanted you to be great” quote from Abby Lee. It was really good. Fun plot. But I felt it could’ve been better and expected it to be due to the TikTok hype.
Also the city felt way too small for there to be so many families running different areas. It felt like there were too many fingers in the pie, you know?
This also could’ve been better if our girlie wasn’t obsessed with birds and didn’t curse with “bird words” as they’re called in the books. (i.e. “oh swan!” Instead of “shit”). Are you five?
I did enjoy the phone line aspect, that was cool lol.

Pretty good. The plot was good and the characters were just eh. A very standard good-ish book. Nothing bad about the book but there’s also nothing good to say.

I don't know what to rate this book 2.5 stars I guess?
It was entertaining enough and parts of it were enjoyable but so many things fell flat or required forgiveness from the readers.
There were so many plot points that showed up and then very easily dissolved.
-She was attacked at school - but not really. It kept flicking back and forth between casual and traumatic.
-Angelo's mom had a hit put out on her - and they randomly find the man a decade later. (Was hoping there was more from this or it brought them together considering she made him a list).
-Sinners Anonymous was one of the best parts but she wasn't actually confessing to any crimes. She's just an over thinker with a guilty conscious.
-She's trying to save her dad and the forest so she offers herself to a mob boss who didn't even own the land. We're supposed to believe she's book smart but she's a complete dumbass.
-Her dad has amnesia everywhere but on the boat? Idk maybe. I guess.
-Honorable mention: The bird puns. They were cute but overdone.
IMO there were too many areas that required forgiveness from the reader for this book to be 4 or 5 stars.
What I loved:
-The fortune cookie component
-Tor and the brothers
-The idea of sinners anonymous
-How she got her revenge in small petty ways
-The slow burn.
