Had the same fast-paced, puzzle-filled feeling of the Inheritance Games series. At times it felt very YA to me and I think that this would have been an easy 5 star read had I been 15-20 years old, but much of this Naturals program is a bit unbelievable to my early-30s self šŸ˜‚ Teenagers being allowed to look at unsolved MURDER files? Come on... lol. That being said, I couldn't put the book down, generally liked the characters, and was surprised multiple times! I will definitely be continuing the series!

The Inheritance Games books make up my favorite series ever, so Iā€™ve always been a little nervous about reading more by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, in case the other books canā€™t compare. However, I finally decided to give The Naturals a try because I saw several TikToks about this series being even better.

The first half of the book felt very slow. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s because school just started so Iā€™m back to worth and overwhelmed, or if I genuinely just wasnā€™t as into the book as Iā€™d hoped, but it took me, like, 6 days to read the first half, and only 1 day to read the second half. Needless to say, it finally got goodā€¦halfway in.

I like that this storyline had a solid ending, and the hunt for the killer aka Lacey didnā€™t carry over into the next book!

I donā€™t feel very passionate about either boy in the love triangle. I like them both, but Iā€™m not steadily on a team yet.

The whole time, I had a feeling that someone in the program and/or the FBI would be involved, but I did not see it being Lacey. As a matter of fact, at one point, I thought sheā€™d end up being a target because she also had red hair! However, as a result of this, I didnā€™t really trust any of the characters, so I didnā€™t get attached to any of them. I hope I feel more connected to them in the next few books.

I really enjoyed this read. YA criminal minds with more leading women. I didn't expect the twist until very close to the end. I liked Cassie and all the other characters. I really liked the "YOU" chapters and by liked I mean it totally creeped me out. Tropes: Love Triangle, Found Family, Protective and Intelligent Love Interests, Main Characters are all smart including the girls (thank you god).

Itā€™s a super easy read, and great for when you want a break from classics or anything that makes your brain hurt a bit. The characters are also pretty lovable, and the plot is well-paced and can really catch you off-guard, which I like. I couldnā€™t put it down and canā€™t wait to read the next one.
