You’re either going to love it or hate it. The writing style is very much an inner dialogue, and I love it. The author does an excellent job of capturing the random, meandering thoughts that pop into a person’s mind. You can really feel The Bride processing through her past, changes in her family, and the approach of her wedding day. At times you wonder if she is high. Who knows? The complete randomness is what makes it so great. I listened to this book, and the audio narrator really adds to the experience.

Check out the authors 2am book, it’s even better than this one!

Just couldn’t keep my attention. While I appreciated the unique style, it still felt really scattered; I kept losing focus and interest.

I’m wanted to like this book so much. It just got a little too weird and hard to follow. A couple chapters in and I thought I was reading a different book than what I started. It’s an interesting way to describe the main character going through her mental breakdown, but felt a bit weird for the sake of being weird to me.

what a book! the author should definitely write poetry if she doesn’t, or if she does i should read it. this book was borderline poetry 80% of the time which is why i just don’t think it made that great of a novel. good, but confusing. funny, though. and also startlingly dark.

When I picked up Parakeet, I was expecting a poignant novel about grief, with dark, dry humor sprinkled in. What I got was deeply unlikely protagonist and transphobia to replace the jokes.

This was really wonderful and absurd. I struggled to get into the story at first, and parts of it were a bit upsetting, but once we get introduced to Simone, the story really turns around. She helps anchor the book so that the reader can feel more free to be swept up into the surrealist portions. Th writing is great, and there are some really terrific lines and meditations on relationships and intimacy.
