A quirky Kafkaesque look at a young woman's life in the week just before her wedding. At the opening of the book The Bride finds herself in a conversation with her dead grandmother in the form of a parakeet, on another day she wakes up in the body of her mother. At one point the story circles back to the horrific event that divided her life into a before and after and left her scarred both mentally and physically. There is a lot of insight in this short novel. I experienced it as an audiobook and the reader was quite good however there are so many bizarre moments that I would have liked to pause on and consider that I knew I would have preferred it in print.

I think this book does an amazing job of covering a lot of ground in only 225 pages. For those who aren’t big fans of heavy internal monologues or internal thoughts, you may not enjoy this as much, as that’s the main driver of this book.

I advise to also read it slower, as I tend to read quite quickly and found myself not being abl to truly grasp the concepts at hand.

Will definitely re-read in the future and hopefully will increase my rating :)

This book is actually quite beautifully and uniquely written, but I just didn’t connect with any part of the story. That may even be the author’s intention. A lot of symbolism and much of the book is quite bizarre. Overall, it wasn’t for me, but I can appreciate what the author was trying to do.

I try to stick with non-fiction if I'm reading before bed. With this book, I told myself I'd just read a little and then stayed up until 3 AM reading the whole darn thing - fueled by the usual "what's going to happen?" and frequently paired with "wait...what the heck is happening right now??".

Beautiful and strange

This woman was really losing it, but what woman isn't?

Three point five stars because I felt like the pacing (not of the actual book but) of my desire to read it was weird. I would put it down and not pick it up for a while or I would be reading and trying to race to the end. More on me than the book I think.

Fast read due to skipping paragraphs of her inner monologue. I have enough inner ramblings of my own to not have to take on somebody else’s. Other than that it was a unique story. I would recommend.
