I am IN love with Elsie. She is such a beautifully written character. I didn’t think I would be able to fall in love with this book this much seeing as I know nothing of physics and have a hatred for the academic world but Ali Hazelwood kept me hanging on to the very last word.
I also had a hunch the whole time that Laurendeau was a bitch :(

Wasn’t sure what to expect with this book. The short prologue of the book was a good set up for what was going to happen in the book and thought it was well written. I think that the back story of why Elsie had to take a job to be a fake girlfriends was sad but also realistic because educators don’t often make good income. But also, if she didn’t have to buy insilin every month, she probably wouldn’t have needed to take that job in the first place. Yes, Jack was an asshole to her after he found out what her real profession was, but at the same time, I’m not even mad about it because it just showed his love for his brother and that he would do anything for him. I also think that it was sweet of Elsie to not out Greg’s sexuality to his brother and took the brunt end of Jack’s anger in stride. I also think that making fake job listings when you know who you are going to hire before is dumb and hurtful. (Especially when you have someone in your corner saying all the right things about you doing well in the job interview process.) I think that it was fitting that Jack could read Elsie easily and knew that she morphed into what ever the person she was with needed and then in return he knew that something had happened to her to make her believe she had to do that in order for other people to want her in their lives. So it was nice watching her break down her walls to him and watch her grow as a person. I do think that Jack should have told her the truth about her advisor earlier, especially knowing that she had trust issues. But I also think that she should have expected something was fishy with her advisor when Jack and George both negatively reacted the first they heard about who he advisor was. I’m glad the story concluded with her growing a back bone, standing up to her mother, and turning her advisor in.

I’d like to see romance authors TRY to top this. Ali, as per usual, ate and left absolutely no crumbs.
