Enjoyed the story in the end. But not something I would recommend to other fans. The plot jumps around a lot and I'd say it wasn't until I was 3/4 through did I completely understand what was going on and when... Which I don't think was the intention of the author at all!
I did like the ending and I give some good context to Han's and Landon's friendship.

Hello, I love L3 and want more about L3 and why wasn't this entire novel about L3?
The immersiveness of the world building and the layering of time are two of the best things about this novel. I particularly enjoyed how each of the backstories bridged into the present-day events—I love it when authors play with time and structure and do it well.

Meh. Not a book I needed to read, but happy to have put out the curiosity towards its story.
Perhaps it wasn't what I expected with the movie coming out? This was a different story completely. I didn't care for the skipping around. I couldn't "will the suspension of disbelief" at all. I thought parts of it were just gross. I didn't relate to a single character. I hate to be harsh, but this is my least favorite Star Wars book. It was a bit of a chore to get through.
My first audio book. Amazed at the narrator’s ability to sound just like Lando and Han. Listened to the book while driving to and from Bay Area. Really enjoyed the book!
The rebellion was succesfull, the remnants of the Empire have been defeated in the Battle of Jakku, and the New Republic is being established. However, there is a new threat rising as Lando Calrissian is being attacked in his home in Cloud City by his own protocol droid. Lando teams up with Han to investigate further and stumble upon a Pau'an criminal named Fryzen Gor, who built a secret transmitter to bring about the droid apocalypse.
I really struggled with how to rate this book. It's really fun, and I loved the characters and themes in it. There is an Ewok slicer, a very dead-pan Gungan, one of the characters uses they/them pronouns and we get insight into the villain's origins. It was also interesting to see Han's struggle with fatherhood and being a husband, and Lando's development to a point where he's ready to be in a commited relationship. The language is also really great and relatable.
HOWEVER, the book has a huge problem: the flashbacks. Additionally to the present story line, which takes place after the Battle of Jakku, there is a past story line with Han which is shortly after the movie Solo, a Story line with Lando which takes place before Solo and Fryzen Gor's origins. And all of these are jumbled together, which makes this book SUPER CONFUSING and difficult to follow. So yeah, I want to like this book, but it's a little all over the place.

This was a really fun read. This is the first book in the new canon to give us an old time Han, Chewie, and Lando adventure. Also it brings a character from the comics into the prose world, and introduces a character from the upcoming "Solo" movie.
Now, while I did really enjoy reading this story, it's not without its problems. Given that we know certain characters come through the crises of the story because they are in The Force Awakens, of course building tension is going to be a challenge. However, some of the characters' decisions and actions make it seem like the looming dangers are trivial and there's no real sense of urgency.
Also, while the writing was fast paced and easy to read, there was a lot of real world language used that took away from the Star Warsy feel a little.
But despite its flaws, I still loved reading this story.

This Was Fun
Last Shot was my first Older novel and I really enjoyed it. The ending wasa little pat and some of the modern day, American slang was out of place, but on a while it was a very enjoyable novel. Older really captured Han and Lando.

This book was a really fun read that delivers all of the charm and enjoyment of a Han and Lando adventure that I found myself craving after Solo: a star wars story. A delightfully written space adventure.
