I adored this story of heartache, loss and love! I listened to this on audio and couldn't put it down. It's beautifully written and imaginative. The way Schumacher weaves this fantastical tale is wonderfully heartfelt and descriptive.
This is the tale of Amelia, who has lost her best friend and her favorite author who becomes so much more to her. My heart was so happy, sad and every sort of emotion as I read this story. A coming of age story while also working through the loss of loved ones and finding your inner strength through story. I'm not ashamed to say that I did in fact tear up at parts of this one.
If this is a Debut, I can't wait to see what else comes from this author!

“Let me do this for you. Let me give you stories”.
I had won Full Flight by Ashley Schumacher in a Goodreads giveaway. And after I read it, I knew I needed to read Amelia Unabridged next!
This story is about Amelia. She has a best friend called Jenna, and they’re both obsessed with this book series called The Orman Chronicles. They get the opportunity to meet the author N.E. Endsley when they go to a book fair. However, the author ends up leaving and not attending his book panel. This upsets Amelia, especially when she finds out that her best friend actually met him before he left and causes them to get into a huge fight. When Amelia decides she needs to fix things between them, she loses her best friend in a car crash. With this devastating loss and receiving a random book in the mail from the series after she loses Jenna, Amelia goes off to the book store who sent this book to her to get answers and see if she can meet the author finally who is her last link to her best friend.
Wow was this book so beautiful and moving. I mean losing a best friend is hard enough and the last thing you two said to each other resulted in an argument, and never getting the opportunity to right what happened is just devastating in of itself. The story is so beautifully written. It is about loss and grief, but it’s also about hope and how to handle and live with this grief.
When Amelia meets Nolan, it’s like such a pivotal moment for the two of them. They both are suffering from such devastating losses and when they meet, it doesn’t go too well, but once they get to know each other, they connect on such a deep and emotional level that they just get each other. Nolan obviously is apprehensive about meeting her since he is unsure whether she’s just this crazy fan, but when he learns how much she’s hurting, he helps her handle her grief. And when she learns why Nolan is such a recluse and anti-social, she also helps him handle his grief and to change as a person.
The romance is swift, but makes sense. These two who have suffered such losses just connect and get each other and help each other in so many ways. It is just so beautiful and I cannot get enough of their story.
You need to read this story! It’s tragic, but beautiful and hopeful and just so so wonderful. I can hardly wait to read more by Ashley!

DNF 35 pages in. Didn't find the author's prose engaging, and didn't feel her characters had much depth or individuality. Checked other readers' reviews before giving up; the insta-love/love conquers trauma storyline several mentioned made me happy to return this to the library unread.
First things first - if you loved this book - I am truly happy for you. As I have opened this story with such high expectations after seeing all the reviews, but I ended up deeply disappointed.
This story is about Amelia, who, at the very beginning of the story, faces a tragic event that pushes her out of her comfort zone and makes her question various decisions and life plans that were already set in motion. She needs to answer to herself who she is, and more importantly, who she wants to be. We follow Amelia as she is grieving, as she is falling in love, and as she is healing. The story sets us on this journey with Amelia, with the expectation for us to feel and empathize with her.
And from here on, my rumbling begins. If you would like to form your own opinion about this story, I would suggest to not continue reading, but simply, try the book with an open mind.
As this story is set in a world we live in - there is no magic and unicorns flying around, the characters sure do feel like they came straight out of a fairytale. They are absolutely unbelievable, and I do not mean it in a good way, as if they are that incredible.
No, they just do not seem real at all. They are not immersive, and they do not seem well-thought-through. They do not grow or learn much throughout the story.
And not only the characters are bland and unrealistic, but the situations that Amelia ends up participating in made me giggle with disbelief. Everything in her path would just magically appear in front of her. She does not need to pay for anything, she does not need to work or fight. Things just simply... well... are there for her, delivered on a silver platter.
And the romance in this book - SURPRISE - felt unrealistic too. I did not feel any passion or any strong attraction between the characters. The way they meet seemed extracted from fanfiction, rather than a well-delivered storyline you would expect from an actual book.
All in all, after the reading spree I had from the beginning of this year, and many incredible titles that I have finished before this - Amelia Unabridged just fell short.

I absolutely love this book and will not give it up! A beautiful story about death, grief, healing, love, and figuring out the life that you want to live. Not the life that someone else has set out for you, no matter the good intentions behind it. It's about learning how to deal with the curveballs of life and knowing that even though you've struck out now, that you will hit a homerun later. An absolutely beautiful story! Most definitely one of my favourites for the year!

I love how this book kind of has a book within a book - Amelia is a teenager that has a best friend, loves a book series written by an enigmatic teenager that no one knows much about, and is starting to think what to do for college. Her typical teenager life gets radically changed after she loses her best friend and decides to embark on a journey to find out why she received a signed copy of one of the books by their beloved author. She ends up meeting a lot of people in her journey and adjusting her plans for the future.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Amelia Unabridged was beyond adorable with bits of heartbreak. I wasn't expecting to go on an emotional roller coaster like I did but heck, I enjoyed it all. In it, you will meet Jenna, Amelia, Nolan and Alex. Amelia and Jenna become best friends after a random meeting at a book store. Which, of course, occurred after a tragic family event. Amelia's father left her and her mom for a much younger woman.
After that, her mom was kind of a ghost or zombie. She was there.. but not really there for Amelia. Even though she was a bit better towards the end of the book, it was too little to late for me. Then there's Jenna. Now her family basically (sort of) adopted Amelia into their family. They knew that Amelia didn't have much of anything so they took her under her wing. I honestly loved that they made sure that she got one good meal per week due to their family meals.
I could also see how this puts a huge burden on Amelia's shoulder after Jenna's untimely death. It was a sudden and horrific accident that happens overseas and yet Amelia doesn't know what to do. At least until she gets a random book from a random store in a random ass state that she has never been to.
This leads to Amelia's adventure to meeting Nolan, Alex, and Wally. Now I loved Wally. He was absolute favorite dog and I have no idea what breed he is. Ugh, such heartbreak too. Nolan and Alex are a bit awkward but they work as best friends. Just like Amelia, Nolan knows tragedy. Through this they find a way to move on and remember the good things of the past.
In the end, it took some major back bone and true love to find happiness. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to dive into the next one by Ashley.
