TW for grief and loss of a loved one.

“Amelia Unabridged” is a raw, beautifully tragic story.

I really don’t want to say too much for fear of giving the story away. I actually think the synopsis gives too much away, so I don’t recommend reading that.

Amelia is feeling lost after a tragic loss when she receives a mysterious package. She wants to learn more about this mysterious gift and the sender so she looks up the return address. When she’s unable to gleam any information that way her next course of action is to head there herself and find it that way. What she finds is more than she bargained for, in a good way.

The main characters, Amelia and Nolan, are broken and consumed with grief and guilt. They learn to heal together; they give each other hope and the strength to move on.

This has a fantasy/fairytale feel to it although it isn’t either one. I didn’t really like “connected thread” aspect the two share, so that made their supposed connection unbelievable to me. The majority of the book takes place over a week so although the romance didn’t really feel insta-love to me, I wasn’t sure I fully believed in it either. However, my main takeaway from this isn’t the romance so it didn’t bother me too much in the end.

I cried early on and all throughout the rest of the book. This is a heartbreaking story; it isn’t a feel-good at all but I was left feeling hopeful. It’s beautifully written and although it’s sad and melancholy for most of the book, I would recommend it. It’s a gorgeous tale of grief and moving on and finding happiness and allowing yourself these things.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/Wednesday Books in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't knew anything about this book. it was a walk into the dark and omg ! it's heart warming. love it !!!

There is just something kind of magical about really good YA fiction. And there’s a special layer of heart filling magic baked into Amelia Unabridged.

a book as beautiful as its cover

What a beautiful story of loss and hope and healing after a tragedy. From page 1, I fell in love with Amelia and felt all her sorrow and anger and fear along with her through the entire book. Ashley Schumacher painted such a picture with her words that I could feel myself in Lochbrook, at the festival with Nolan and Alex and Amelia and Wally. Amelia finally found the family of her dreams and herself along the way. I can't wait to see more from this author.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. I really loved it.

I really had high hopes for this, based in the synopsis. But the main character was not developed well enough for me and the plots pace was off. Meh.

I don’t even know where to begin with how this book made me feel. It’s not very often anymore that a book completely sweeps me off my feet and immerses me in its story and characters. I guess the best way to describe it is that I devoured this book in all its poetic, lyrical and nostalgic glory. The writing style alone made my heart soar because it is so wonderfully vivid and alive, and then there’s Amelia and Nolan who are both so perfectly imperfect and yet still so perfect for each other.

If you want a book that is going to make you feel, then do yourself a favor and read this one.

And of course, thank you to Netgalley and Wednesday Books for providing me with a free ARC.
