Beautiful story, wrapping up teen heartache and loss and romance in the power of stories and their impact on our lives.
The plot may feel a little contrived at times but it somehow seems to fit in a story about the magic we can find in the real world to match what we find in our books.

This contemporary book surrounds a young woman's love for a book series. When Amelia's father leaves her and her mother she finds herself at the bookstore. She is met with Jemma, someone who will become not only her best friend but will buy her the first of the Orman Chronicles, a book series that will bind them and hold a very special place in her heart. Later on, when they graduate from high school they travel to meet the very elusive, and young author of the series, in anticipation of the third and last book. Unfortunately, the event is cancelled after Jemma meets Nolan (the author) and says something to him before Amelia. Only one week later, Jemma passes away in a car crash whilst abroad.
Whilst grieving, and making sense of what will occur next her life, Amelia receives a package from a bookstore named Val's Books with a brand new and special edition of the first Orman Chronicles book, edition 101 of 100. Believing it to be the last gift from Jemma Amelia decides to take a road trip and investigate.
One of the most beautiful things about this book is the writing. This author's writing of her love of books is something I have rarely seen. The way the author writes of reading is unique and stunning in its authenticity as well as the remarks of what the books bring to her. Her description is almost prose-like and the characterization of her novel is beautiful, especially when you see the growth each character is met with along the way. I loved the evolution each character went through, the history they showed, and the absolute beautiful relationships they formed with each other.

“We weren’t even alive in 1995” made me feel old and I can’t believe the characters in this book think that English is a “safer” major than photography.

LITERALLY CRIED. THE EXPLORATION OF GRIEF AND LOSS — also if someone told you this was magical realism they lied okay

This is probably one of the best YA books I’ve read in a long while. I listened to the audiobook version and really enjoyed the narration.
Having lost a close friend when I was 20 and then losing a childhood friend a few years ago, this book had very touching moments that really brought that final ultimate loss of friendship back in a fresh way.
Some complain about the insta-love in this book, but after listening to it for myself, I feel like it actually felt pretty authentic. Especially at that age when it’s so easy to fall in and out of love.
I’m really happy with how the book ended.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for an Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I just finished and I have book hangover.
This BOOK! This book gives me all the feels. It is heartbreaking and beautiful and tender. If you love reading this book is for you. It is a beautiful story about grief and surviving, love and loss, and finding yourself after loss. I loved the characters. They were all wonderfully developed. I felt like I was in Lochbrook, Michigan with Amelia. I even enjoyed the mystery of who sent the rare edition of the book to Amelia.
I will be recommending this book to my students and purchasing it for our library.
