Would have been 5 stars, but 12 year olds are really annoying

I liked the stories in the past way more than the present. I also wish the story in the past was about the apothecary's betrayal/pregnancy to better echo the state of the woman in the present. And look at that, in 1 month I've forgotten their names.

I know I was supposed to like the main characters, but I somehow didn’t?  I also felt like the voices (vocabulary, expression, etc.) of each of the women seemed really similar despite how different they should’ve been (a 12 year old in 1791, a 30-40something in 1791, and a 30-something in the 21st century).  Story was good but didn’t love the writing.

I wanna start by saying that I am simply not a Historical Fiction girlie- so the fact that I read this entire book is a merit to its quality. It was well written and while I found it a little slow at times, I ultimately did find investment in the storyline and it made me want to read to the end so that I could find out what happened! I definitely enjoyed the vibes more than the actual story, but I’m overall glad I picked it up.

As far as cast diversity goes- you have the main characters being women of completely different age groups, who have had different struggles in their own lives, you have two different time periods being represented in the book, there is not much mention of race and while there are men in the book it is heavily focused on women characters! The main plot doesn’t really revolve around the main characters’ “flaws” but a main focus is how those flaws make them the person they are. Very good read!

2.5 ⭐ started off so promising and there were bits I enjoyed throughout but honestly, pretty boring overall? I had such high hopes for it
