Close to a one star - a sappy Hallmark movie X 10 = this book. This is the first book by Kristin Harmel that I’ve read and I do not plan on picking up any others. Poor writing, cliches, and just in general, eye rolling occurrences.

This one fell a little flat for me. I thought the plot lines were pretty predictable and I didn’t really care about any of the characters. The story was very character driven which made it drag for me.

A story of missed connections. It was sad throughout and jubilant for a mere fraction of the book. But it is haunting and interesting and you want them to make the right choices, or different choices. It was well done and I got to learn about POW camps in the US, which makes me want to learn more. I really enjoyed this book.

If you squint your eyes a little you can pretend you’re reading The Notebook. If you don’t like predictable- this ISN’T the book for you.
