This book was really cleverly formatted - I began reading it as comedy, which then gave way to a few case studies, which then gave way to some hard-hitting research. It felt very much like being drawn from something wholly innocent (i.e. flirty DMs) into something horrific (i.e. thousands of pounds worth of debt). I really liked the tone of Holmes's prose, and the inclusions of the screenshots - they helped to break up what would otherwise have been a very, very intense subject.

This feels like a very important book! I thought I was quite astute and could never be hooked into an online romance. Ignore the fact that I am very happily married! I get the feeling that absolutely anyone could suffer the consequences highlighted here.

The book uses humour initially to encourage you to find out more about this subject matter. I liked that.. The reader quickly finds out how many of our misconceptions work against us! Some of the experiences suffered by people were very disturbing.

I had two main insights!

My first feeling is that this book should be on the school curriculum! Youngsters would quickly relate to the subject matter and as a result be on a higher level of awareness! That would help.and make you less susceptible.

The second insight is how remarkably powerless law enforcement and other agencies are in dealing with or preventing this type of crime! Perhaps more global cooperation in the shape of collaborative efforts would be a start!

I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but I did and I wanted in before I even knew what it was about. Now I've read it I'm SO glad I did.

This book is about something I will admit I knew very little about, romance scams.  I was actually horrified to find out how much of an organised crime it is.  It's laugh out loud funny at the same time as being utterly heartbreaking when you read the victims' stories.  Becky really did a great job of humouring these scammers to be able to give us such an in depth insight into how they work. I found it particularly interesting to read the conversations she had with one of them who talked about why they do it. Such terrifying corruption.

I feel like I’m quite savvy with these things but I can definitely see how if caught off guard someone could find themselves a victim of this sort of crime. It actually makes me really angry when I think about how they prey on the vulnerable.  I will absolutely be having conversations with my children about it

In short, a really worthy read, I learnt a lot, at the same time I was completely entertained by Becky’s humour and wit!
