❤️❤️❤️

The first book I read was The Confessor back in 2004 ~ with Pietro Lucchesi as a newly elected pope. Now, 16 years later, here we are with The Order and Pietro Lucchesi is dead. Archbishop Luigi Donati, the pope’s private secretary, sends for Gabriel as he suspects a foul play in his death. Soon, we’re chasing leads all over Europe! In this pandemic situation we are in, what better way to travel! More than a leisurely read, it makes you think & ponder on current social, political, ethical & moral issues we have.

I love the author, but within minutes of starting this, I felt the same as so many other reviewers. This one is about his presidential politics. Right from the very mention of a pandemic in the beginning.

I am no Trump fan (but I am a conservative), but I still don’t want to waste my time.

Hopefully the next one doesn’t have an ulterior motive, because I have loved this series.

The Gabriel Allon books are always enjoyable, this one was a bit heavy on the religious content for me, and as such got a little confusing at times, but I enjoy how his colleagues always swoop in and save the day and he has such interesting friends and family

3.5 but I rounded up.

I picked this book up to fulfill a reading challenge category not knowing it was BOOK TWENTY in a series. Luckily you do not need to have read the others to get the story. It references things in past books but those things are not critical to this tale.

This falls in the 'Pope dies by mysterious circumstances and things need to be solved before the next one is elected" genre of crime/mystery.

Book was good. Probably would have dragged my feet if I physically read it but listening kept me engaged.

When the pope is murdered, it is up to Gabriel Allon to find his killer and stop them before the fate of the Catholic Church is sealed at the next conclave.

This was my first Silva novel, as I don’t travel into the realm of thrillers and spy novels very often. It was an interesting read, with lots of historical references to keep readers like myself interested. I wasn’t overly enthralled by the book and had to remind myself to pay attention on more than one occasion. That being said, in spite of my occasional disinterest, I was able to follow the story all the way through. It read like a much tamer version of a Dan Brown novel like Da Vinci Code, with a more believable premise and secret organization. I would say at the end, I felt neither compelled nor totally bored by this book.

Classic Silva, with intellectual cat and mouse and a late twist.
