This book started out a little slowly for me but I ended up really liking it. Cecelia Ahern definitely knows how to tell a good story. I've read a few books by her, including "P.S. I Love You," which I just learned from the back of "The Book of Tomorrow" that she wrote it when she was in her very early 20s. How cool is that?
Tamara is a great character with a really good transition. She's a teen who has just had her life uprooted after she loses her father. She starts out as sort of a spoiled brat but definitely grows throughout the book. I love character transitions in books. It's awesome when you really get to see someone change and become a much better person. I think those transitions can be hard to write and to make believable but Ahern does it well in this case.
I also liked the little bit of magic in the book. It almost verges on magical realism, one of my favorite genres. I would have liked to know more about the origins of the magic but not having that really didn't seem to take away from the book.
With summer pretty much being here, this would be the perfect book to get lost in by the beach or on a long car trip. It's definitely a fun read! I also think that this book would be a good adult crossover read for young adult fiction lovers. There is a little, tiny bit of content that may not be great for young adults but it really is just a tiny little bit.

A classic Cecilia Ahern novel complete with romance and magic and mystery. A good, light read.

I really wanted to like this book, but it was disappointing. P.S. I Love You is still my favorite of her books.
Tamara's a rich and popular girl, living in a nice house with parents that buy her anything she wants. Then her Dad dies and they lose the house and Tamara and her mum have to go live with relatives Tamara barely knows out in the countryside. So far, so normal for a coming of age story - a privileged girl learns to be more accepting and thoughtful of others around her. But this story takes a turn for the weird when Tamara finds a diary from a travelling library, a diary that when she opens it each morning already has her own thoughts from the day written in as though it had already happened.
I picked this up at a car boot sale because it looked like a nice, easy read with a good bit of fantasy mixed in. And that's exactly what it is; finding the diary changes the way Tamara lives out her day, sometimes helping her and sometimes just confusing her but the story still moves along predictable lines.
There was tons of mystery around too: the mysterious person living in the house across the road, Tamara's parents and her own history; Tamara finds out secrets and lies shroud the truth of her family history. It added to the story but when the truth came out I didn't find it entirely convincing: why people did certain things wasn't as believable as it could have been.
Tamara is a fun character to read, she's arrogant but not too mean and the mysteries and the strange diary make the story a lot more interesting than it otherwise would have been. It still doesn't stray too far from the standard formula for this type of book though. It's a nice easy read but nothing really stands out about it.
A nice mix of mystery and oddness, I enjoyed it and it would make a nice, light holiday read, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I know, I know. This is not the best Cecelia Ahern book. But she still gets me!
She's one of my favorite writers and although this book has a slow pace I still think is amazing. I'm ashamed to admit it had been sitting in my shelf for two years now. And I regret not reading it before.
We have this girl Tamara, she's a spoiled little prat. I kinda hated her... but I think that was the point, except in some parts where I didn't quite understand why she did some stuff, and I just tried to be conprehensive and not get mad.
In the last 60 pages I was like "what the hell is going on!?" because stuff started to happen all at once and it was AMAZING. This book is beautiful and it thought me more than one life lesson as all of Cecelia's books do. Really recommend it to everyone.

I’m starting to think that if a book publicist is contacting me repeatedly about reading and reviewing a new book, the book must be desultory. My gut feeling said don’t agree to read and review this book; my gut feeling said this book would disappoint me. I should have listened to my gut feeling. This book was disappointing. I did not like the main character. The main character was inconsistent. The plot jumped. Once again, a book that could have used an editor.
Disappointing book that reminded mw of those weird VC Andrews books that I used to read as a kid. Still I read the whole thing in one sitting. I was expecting magical realism and instead got quirky and awkward.
