This is not the kind of book you are used to, is more a diary than simply a novel, but is original and interesting. Short, addictive and gripping; the Looker inside of you is ready to go out.
The story is told by a woman, the Professor, her thoughts and acts told in first person, but we don’t really know her name or why she choose now to start the story. She is obsessed with her neighbour, the actress, as she calls her. But she will become more than a “looker”, more dangerous than anyone could had expected. I really don’t know how to categorize this book, but I liked it. It was like I couldn’t stop reading, the thoughts were dark and dangerous, but intriguing and addictive; like you become the looker and start obsessing with the “actress” too. This is a walk to the sanity of the looker, how she just wants to be noticed till she is so obsessed that can not control her impulses any longer; ready to do anything to become noticed.
This is a really short story, take a deep breath and immerse to the dark side, where the impulses and obsession gain to reality and control.
Ready to cross the line?

I was so curious as to how this would end, and I do have to say that I was not expecting the resolve.

Sometimes a person is pushed so far that they find ways cope with whatever they are dealing with. Such is the case of the protagonist in Looker. Author Laura Sims crafts an unsettling yet, interesting narrative. The narrative of a middle aged woman who spends most of her free time observing the life and times of a famous actress who lives in her area. At first, this character comes across as lonely and depressed. She lives vicariously through the life of a woman who seems to have it all.

As I read the story it occurred to me that not once did I ever learn the name of the main character or the actress. I believe that by omitting those key details the story became even more unsettling. What I liked the most about the story was the bird’s eye view of the narrator’s descent into insanity. I began to question her experiences. At one point, she mentions having an encounter with the actress, but I feel like she imagined that. One character known as Mrs. H seemed like a kind of conscious trying to bring the main character back to reality.

The story was fantastic. I am giving it five stars. Through, its a short read that does not make it any less interesting. The final act of the story was eye opening. I began to think about how fragile the human psyche is. Celebrities are placed on a pedestal and lauded by the public. They are painted by the media as being perfect and through social media fans are given a bird’s eye view into their lives. This woman took it a step further and tried to insert herself into the actresses life truly believing that one greeting meant so much more. That was far from the truth.
