THOMPSON: Sunt doctorul Thompson, de la Centrul Medical Berkshire. Câte focuri
aţi auzit?
CROSS: Mai multe.
THOMPSON: Cum vă numiţi, domnule?
CROSS: Alex Cross.
THOMPSON: Aveţi dificultăţi în respiraţie? Dureri?
CROSS: În abdomen. Simt că se mişcă ceva lichid înăuntru. Respir greu.
THOMPSON: Ştiţi că aţi fost împuşcat?
CROSS: Da. De două ori. E mort? Măcelarul? Michael Sullivan?
THOMPSON: Nu ştiu. Au murit mai mulţi oameni. Bine, băieţi, daţi-mi o mască de
oxigen simplă. Două perfuzii pe stative cu bază lată. Doi litri de soluţie salină intravenos.
Acum! O să încercăm să vă mutăm, să vă ducem imediat la spital, domnule Cross. Staţi
liniştit. Mă mai auziţi? Sunteţi conştient?
CROSS: Copiii mei... Spuneţi-le că-i iubesc.

It was the first Alex Cross I read and loved it, reading it in one setting. It's gripping, fast paced and highly entertaining.
I loved the tightly knitted plot, the well thought characters and loved the mystery part that kept me guessing.
I'm sure I will read the other books in this series, this one is excellent.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I had forgotten how much I love the Alex Cross books, hadn't read them for ages. It was like snuggling up by a fire on a cold winter's day (much like today). The characters felt together and it didn't matter that I had missed out a lot of the series I feel back to the fold.. I could see how they had grown in the years apart.

A nice easy read and glad I had done so.

I was given this book by net galley in exchange for an honest and fair review which I have done.

James Patterson gives us another chance to catch up with Alex Cross. It always feels as though we are meeting a family member again and spending some time together. We have to share some difficult moments in this book. We also enjoy the reassuring presence of Nana Mama and the aromas of her delicious cooking floating throughout the house. But, of course, we embark with Alex on solving some really nasty cases. Here, what starts as the murder of a school headmaster and the wife of the Vice President is definitely not what it seems at first, Many trails crisscross this story: people shot, remote forests and law offices in Alabama, psychiatric hospitals, girls abductions and so much more, Alex, Bree and their friends and colleagues have to do a lot of running around while the truth is just under their nose, but springs on them at the end. I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to catching up with Alex again before too long.
Thank you to NetGalley, Cornerstone and James Patterson for the privilege of reading this book on an advance readers copy.

It's probably been a decade since I read an Alex Cross novel. Patterson is a great story teller and I was excited to dig into this next installment in the series. As usual, Patterson weaves an interesting story, with stories within stories. The stories, both the personal stories of the characters and the whodunnit aspect of the murder mystery, are great hooks. The book moves at a quick pace and it's an easy and fun read. I did, however, find Patterson's writing in this novel to be choppier and the dialogue to be more clunky than I remembered from his first dozen or so novels in this series. i didn't find myself sitting on the edge of my seat or getting nervous with every weird sound in my house at night, which is what I remember from his earlier novels. I'm not sure if this is a change in Patterson's writing, in my reading preferences over the last decade or a combination of the two. Still, I'd recommend this book and the series to anyone looking for a fun, easy, twisty murder mystery.
