Opening paragraph:

“The majestic ship creaked and groaned; its sails rippled, fat with wind. Days from land, it split the ocean towards the great city in the west, carrying precious cargo: a man - a man the crew knew only as the Master.”

Reads like a GCSE student wrote it. The character deaths are very underwhelming. Portrayal of Altaïr was so ass I have read fanfiction on ao3 that has captured his character better. Will not be reading the others in the series soz.

Justice for my man Altaïr

It was a good book overall. It only tells you about Altair's story you've seen in the games his been on. Like the very first Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines. Nothing more to expect.

preferred this in a lot of ways over the 1st 2 books, although they were decent as well.

To be honest I read this book because it was recommended to me, not because I was interested in the series. But it didn't take long until I got hooked on it. It is one of those few books that have suspense and make you want to see what's going to happen next, where you get attached to the characters, and desperately want to read the second book as soon as you finish it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Though I am probably biased, considering that I am a huge fan of the game that inspired it. My only criticism would be that the title says “the untold story of Altair” and a lot of it is told in the game. Only about the last 30% was new information. That being said, it is worth reading if you are a fan of the game or genre.
