Interesting story. Quick read. Abrupt ending made me think but also felt like the story did not get resolved. I feel like in humanizing the main character The author may have sold her short a little bit. Would be a good book for a Book Club discussion.

Read if you want to reflect on the intersection of politics and values and modern dating

A fitting title. I really liked the writing but reading this in 2025 (especially after these past few weeks) made me feel sick.

I wanted to like Josh, I really did. But by the end, he was just so incredibly dismissive of valid feelings. I felt like the protagonist was sticking her head in the sand. That sinking feeling at the end might have been purposeful, but I still feel ill. I need to sort out the rest of my thoughts.

I think the reviews on this book are controversial because it makes people feel uncomfortable but in my opinion, that is the point of the book. It’s not supposed to be a light hearted read, it is meant to confront readers and make them think about how things like class, race, and privilege can impact relationships. There isn’t a “right” way to confront these problems and while people might disagree with the characters’ own actions and approach to the situation, this is a real experience individuals face in today’s society.
