i thought this was a nuanced way of interrogating a mixed relationship where the couple have dramatically different political views. a lot was going on in the book and there were a lot of plot lines, some more interesting than others. it’s making me spin out, josh for the most part was a nice boyfriend but every now and then he’d say the most stupid shit and as a person he wasn’t that great. i think that rabess not explicitly saying what jess should do is the point, the ending is uncomfortable but that’s the point? where’s the line in a relationship and what views does someone need to have to cross it.

Jess and Josh, a hard road to happily ever after. This book is way over the top on hot topics or racism, elitism, entitlement, etc. The author seems to be trying too hard to sell her views. Using words on the book that may look impressive but for normal readers are just cumbersome. Hard to really enjoy this one, because every time you think Jess was becoming happy she finds some fault in the relationship. Thanks for the chance to read an advance copy from the publisher S & S.

This was weird, the story of a Black girl with no Black friends is so tired

 ⭐️⭐️ (2/5)

Everything’s Fine had a cool idea — messy romance mixed with politics and race — but honestly, I was lowkey frustrated 🤦🏽‍♀️. The female main character kept dimming herself just to make white people comfortable, like girl, why? 🙄 The male main character was kinda nice but also had some seriously heartless takes that made me go, “ew” 🤢. The romance felt more like a never-ending debate club than actual feelings, pacing was slow, and some parts were super triggering for me. Cool concept, but it just didn’t hit right.

i think they forgot to finish the book
